چکیده

./V-acetoxy-acetylaminofluorene; but no increase was demon strated when cells were treated with ./V-nitrosodiethylamine, yV-nitrosodimethylamine, or 2-acetylaminofluorene. The frequency of viral transformation increased linearly with chemical concentration until a maximum level was reached; however, higher concentrations decreased the trans formation frequency relative to that observed with lower doses. It is suspected that the chemical carcinogens enhance viral transformation by interacting directly with the host cells, rendering them more susceptible to transformation by virus.

Enhancement of adenovirus transformation by treatment of hamster cells with ultraviolet irradiation, DNA base analogs, and dibenz(a,h)anthracene.

Treatment of hamster embryo cells with ultraviolet irradiation, 5-bromodeoxyuridine, 5-iododeoxyuridine, 5-bromodeoxycytidine, or dibenz(a,h)anthracene prior to the addition of an oncogenic adenovirus, SA7, enhanced the frequency of viral transformation among surviving cells. An increase of over 100-fold was demonstrated with 5-bromo deoxyuridine, 12.5 Aig/ml, and over 80-fold with 5-bromo deox...

Chemical enhancement of viral transformation in Syrian hamster embryo cells by gaseous and volatile chlorinated methanes and ethanes.

Methods were developed for exposing cells in vitro to gases or vapors of volatilized organic liquids. Compounds were selected for their industrial importance, environmental impact, and suspected role in the etiology of some human cancers. Exposure chambers were designed for easy insertion of dishes of cultured cells and were equipped with inlet and outlet ports for introduction and purging of t...

Enhancement of viral transformation for evaluation of the carcinogenic or mutagenic potential of inorganic metal salts.

Thirty-eight metal salts were tested for their capacity to enhance transformation of Syrian hamster embryo cells by a simian adenovirus, SA7. All of the metal salts with known carcinogenic potential in animals or mutagenic activity in microbial or mammalian cells increased the SA7 transformation frequency. Metals were classified into three groups according to the concentration necessary to prod...

Enhanced virus transformation of hamster embryo cells in vitro.

Since transformation of hamster cells in vitro by simian virus 40 (SV40) is a rare event in a homogeneously infected cell population, physiochemical studies of the events of virus transformation are difficult. Similarly, other deoxyribonucleic acid-containing oncogenic viruses produce transformed-cell foci in vitro with low efficiency. Sublethal doses of X-ray irradiation, as well as preincubat...
